Socialist Critique of Non-profits

This post is about five years old, but the critique of the NGO sector is based in old principles.  Any comments are welcome; just register, log in and comment.

Related to this blog’s theme, do you think that not-for-profit organizations are a way to unfuck our totally fucked economy?  Among the non-profits you know of, are they top-down organizations, run by a board of directors, where it appears that membership’s role in governance is murky, or nonexistent?  Do they practice the cooperatives’ principle, “one member, one vote?”  If not, do you know why not?

Who actually owns the non-profit?  How do they exercise any ownership?
